La Pulga Biónica Will Be Out for Two or Three Weeks

14 May

Today is a beautifully warm spring day in San Diego. I woke up to the sound of birds singing so loudly that I couldn’t concentrate on my squat challenge.  I didn’t mind much, though.  The music of nature is never a bad distraction.  Oh my goodness, I’m now freaking myself out with this poetic talk.

Poor prom queen

Anyway, my morning happiness was clouded by some very bad news concerning four-time FIFA’s Player of the Year, His Majestic  Highness, La Pulga Lionel Messi.

L-Meezy is out again

L-Meezy is out again

It turns out that he will be out up to three weeks with that recurring right hamstring injury that first appeared during the first leg of the Champions League semifinals against Paris Saint Germain and was aggravated this Sunday during Barca’s 2-1 victory over Atlético Madrid.  Messi had to leave the pitch in the 68th minute and the Culés were forced to finish the game with only ten men, as they had already used up their three substitutions by that time. Poor Lio! This means that he will most likely miss the rest of the season, including Barça’s three remaining domestic matches. This totally reminds me of the high school cheer captain getting injured and missing the state championship game.

Barca clinched Spain’s La Liga title for the 22nd time this Saturday

Luckily for Lio, his injury will not really make a difference in terms of titles and trophies.  The Blaugrana automatically became the La Liga champion this Saturday, when Real Madrid tied with Espanyol. And, they already lost their shot at the Champions League and Copa del Rey titles. But, in terms of individual accomplishments, this recurring injury is definitely a setback.  If he does miss the rest of the season, he will be four league goals away from matching his 50 goal record of last year. Also, you obviously know what that means.  His nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo just might catch up to him.

The question now is: why in the heck did Tito Vilanova make him play on Sunday??

Ughhhh, this sucks for Lio.  He needs to be in full shape for Argetina’s World Cup qualifier games against Colombia and Ecuador in June. The Stilettos of Fútbol wishes him a speedy recovery.  Even if you like Crissy Cris Ronny Ronaldo better, come on, don’t wish ill upon Little Man!

Lastly, The Stilettos of Fútbol is now on Instagram! Make sure to check it out on @thestilettosoffutbol for news bits and images! 🙂
